Annual Games Night @ All Souls Unitarian Church
Jan 11 @ 12:00 am – 4:00 am

Every January, Mensans of all ages gather for an evening of games, snacks, and meeting new friends.  Bring along your favorite board game, card game, or other game, or just play what others bring.  Throughout the year we have game nights exclusively for our Family Program.  The Game Night in January is different in that it is a big event that brings together our Family Program members and the adult members in our area.

The other big event where we combine the two groups is the Outdoor Gathering (OG) in the spring.

Most adult Mensans are big kids at heart, so everyone always has a great time!

The main Central Indiana Mensa activities are open to anyone of any age.  They have events in many of the major cities in Indiana such as West Lafayette, Muncie, Evansville, Versailles, and of course Indianapolis.  Check out their extensive list of upcoming events at: http://indymensa.org

Smart Art 2014: Lithography and Printmaking

Friday, April 25th, 2014 – 6:30pm

We will explore some basic printmaking techniques with the goal of making both temporary and permanent printing plates.  There will be experimentation and creative problem solving needed to develop ideas for how to make printing blocks using core principles, such as the fact that oil and water do not mix (the cornerstone of lithography), with household objects.  We will work with a reductive drawing technique where an image is etched or scratched onto a prepared surface then applying and removing paint to reveal the etched design.  We will also explore a method of transferring digital images onto high quality water color paper with hand mark-making possibilities.

Not all projects will be suitable for all ages as some use sharp tools and chemicals, but there will be things for all age groups to do.

The event is being held at Todd Academy and will be led by the Todd Academy art teacher, Aaron Green.  Aaron has a BFA from Herron School of Art and an MFA from the University of Illinois. He has exhibited across the country, been published in books and magazines, and has work in both private and corporate collections.  Prior to Todd Academy Aaron has taught at the University of Illinois, the Prairie Art Alliance, and Herron School of Art. He also has a certificate in Reboundology, a license to operate a nail gun in New York City,  and once sang with the band Genesis.

Cost is $10 per participating student for supplies.  Please RSVP at this link or copy and paste the following to your browser

As a courtesy, please RSVP as soon as you can or at the latest by 24 hours prior to the event so we can know how many supplies to purchase.

Please forward this to anyone you think might enjoy this event including other gifted families, teachers, and school administrators.  We rely on you to get the word out!

Humming Hollow Alpaca Farm @ Humming Hollow Alpaca Farm
Nov 7 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am

Have you ever seen a live alpaca?  Did you know that there is an alpaca farm in Noblesville?  If you join us on November 7th, you’ll not only get to tour the farm and meet these delightful creatures, you will learn about them from one of the owners of the farm, who thoroughly delighted the Mensa group earlier this year with stories and many “things we didn’t know about alpacas.”  After your visit, you’ll be telling your family and friends about it endlessly.  Please reserve your spot early – the farm can accommodate only 20 to 30 people at a time.  We’ll see you then!

If you are a Mensa member (you have a membership card), we have a special event for you immediately after the Alpaca Farm event that you won’t want to miss.  More information should be coming in the mail soon.
